Why So Serious about Budgets?

As an artist, there are so many things that you think about and envision. You dream about getting into the studio and recording that one hit record. You also dream about shows/touring, record deals and all the results from that hit record. One of the biggest things that you forget to calculate in that dream is your budget. Your budget (or lack of) can either break or build your career. Your budget is the amount of money/funds that you estimate that you will spend on your project. In order to figure out your budget, you need to have your plan that you want to execute and write out the prices for it:

Paying for beats?

Paying for studio time?

Paying the Features?

Paying for the Graphic Design for the artwork?

Paying for a manager?

Paying for a PR Rep?

Paying for a website?

These are just a few of the basics that you need to consider when making your budget for your project. It may seem overwhelming, but if you make out a plan, invest in yourself, build relationships and look for investors/sponsorship, it can be easier than it looks to get a budget plan. By building and sticking to your budget, it can mature you as an artist. If you are trying to figure out where to start in your career, your budget can help make the path easier to maneuver and cause less speed bumps along the way. If you try to avoid a budget, you could begin to take shortcuts that will allow your content and product to come out below quality. Why so serious about your Budget?
